Helped Turn the State Around

Me: Dad's birthday.

Cthu: ...He lives on in memory. Thank you for sharing, so he can live a bit more with us....

I have talked about him before on here. He was Republican National Committeeman from Oklahoma. Helped turn the state around from Dem to GOP, and rated a full chapter in the autobio of our first Republican governor, Henry Bellmon. (A good read. Look for it.)

I have much-prized photos of Dad & Mom at the GOP conventions, with Ike & Mamie, Dick & Pat. My brother wrote Dick about him, and received a signed copy of one of Dick's books, with the note that Dick was sorry my dad didn't live to see "our victory" in 1968. (I have thought, "if he had, your resignation would've killed him.")

Dad was very proud of helping lead the state GOP from the kind of RINO bunch we see at the Fed level to a real and winning party. Okla now the only state (I think) that every county goes GOP every 4 years.

It's knowing that history that kept me from despairing about the nation, and hoping we could turn things around. I'll admit I was quite surprised that the turn should come in the form of DJ Trump, but it continues to be a pleasant surprise.

It is daily astonishing to realize that after eight years of Obamanation, instead of a Hillary, we have an administration that - in a little over a month since the election, and with a month still to go to the inauguration - has begun to seriously transform our federal government. Or, at least, make the wienies boo-hoo.

I do wish I could be talking this all over with my Dad. But with his smoking, drinking, and bad prescriptions, if he'd lived he'd still be dead today. Funny boot that.

Annnd, with that long ramble, I think I'll go apply some toothpaste to toothbrush and power down shortly.
