Home v Hospital Births

We had our first at home. I caught my daughter. Midwife slept through it on our couch. Doctor arrived late. But in their defense, also my nurse sister-in-law's, nobody expected the labor to be so brief. We had toured the hospital birthing area (considered the option) just that night. BIL jokes we had to rush home from the hospital to have the baby. (Did I just hear Miss Marple's teeth grinding?)

(Second pregnancy was full-term full-weight boy twins. No thought of home birth with that one, but another unexpectedly swift labor - they came within minutes of being born in the cab.)

We were products of the time, had all the best support, best of health, were well informed on the risk, and made a choice that turned out well, by the combined grace of preparation, wisdom, and a good shot of luck. Do home birth again? I was about to type, 'never,' but then I remembered Obamacare.
