Old Flix

Approppo... approp.. arroppo... relating to nothing in particular except mention of Clark Gable above...

Have been enjoying adding old flix into our video playlist of superhero TV shows, modern movies, and YooToobs.

Watched College Humor (1933) to see what Bing Crosby had to do in it. Well, sing a little, of course. Football with leather helmets, fraternity shenanigans, sorority sexiness, making out, and professor Crosby hooks up with hot student. Pre-code movies sure liked to offer up the gals dishabille and drinking themes!

Hold Your Man (also 1933) with Jean Harlowe and Clark Gable, hottie and con man get together and have a rocky romance. Just-met couple spending the night together and scenes in a women's "reformatory" as well as glorifying the con artist. Harlowe and Gable sure were young and cute/handsome!

Both were kind of shallow and sometimes meandering plots. College Humor wandered all over the map, but it seemed to a great degree to be an excuse to feature Bing singing. Both had some real "characters."

One thing I really notice on old flix: the fast-paced patter. People were expected to listen faster in those days, with comprehension. No dragging out the thing to two and a half hours! And Hold Your Man, mostly romantic comedy, actually had dust in your eyes moments.
