The More States Change

"The more things change…"

Labels may change…

President Taft was a Republican. A Republican whose "domestic agenda emphasized trust-busting, civil service reform, strengthening the Interstate Commerce Commission, improving the performance of the postal service, and passage of the Sixteenth Amendment [Income Tax]. … [Taft] showed decisiveness [!?!] and restraint in response to revolution in Mexico. The task-oriented Taft was oblivious to the political ramifications of his decisions, often alienated his own key constituencies, and was overwhelmingly defeated in his bid for a second term…. After leaving office, Taft spent his time in academia, arbitration, and the pursuit of world peace through his self-founded League to Enforce Peace. … Harding appointed Taft Chief Justice of the United States…." According to Wikipedia. Sounds more like what we think of as a RINO. The obliviousness and alienation sounds like Pres. Chuckles.

Texas Gov. Colquitt was a Democrat. a Prohibitionist, but Texas voted it down under him. He vetoed half the bills sent to him, including some education bills despite having campaigned on never standing in the way of education. He twice sent Texas troops to the border until the Feds finally showed up. Hardly a hard-core conservative by our measures, liked taxes and government regulations, but sent Texas boys when the Feds would not.

Hiya, Bob. :)
