Dinosaurs - still with us
…In most cases, the dinosaurs would have needed lips to protect their teeth, as the majority of them weren't water dwelling creatures. They would have had scaly lips, just like reptiles such as the monitor lizard.
“It’s also important to remember that teeth would have been partially covered by gums. If we look at where the enamel stops, we can see that a substantial portion of the teeth would be hidden in the gums. The teeth would have appeared much smaller on a living animal." Reisz concluded: “In popular culture, we imagine dinosaurs as more ferocious-looking, but that is not the case.”…

History - still with us
…A new study looked not at military and historical records but at tree rings and found that the winter of 1241 was cold and snowy. Big deal. A little sold and snow couldn’t stop the mighty thundering army led by Genghis Khan’s grandson Batu, could it? No, but it could stop their horses. The Mongols depended on dry, flat plains for their fast and furious attacks and for grass to feed their all-important horses. The snowy winter of 1241 became the swampy spring of 1242, the plains became muck, the grass became scarce and the Mongol Horde became the army formerly known as the mightiest fighting machine of history as it picked up its saddles and went home.…

The news feed is light tonight. Our American tipsters are probably eating BBQ down at the VFW hall, but I’m not sure where everyone else is.
The weird news story of the day concerns two alligators who were found feasting on a human corpse in a canal in Broward County, in South Florida. According to police, the body had been in the water awhile before the alligators started on it, and it has not been identified yet — it’s not even clear whether it is male or female. The whole thing sounds like the opening sequence in a “Law and Order” episode.…

Even as a federal judge rules against Donald Trump and today unsealed hundreds of documents related to the lawsuit against Trump University, a new bombshell in the case has just been revealed.
Turns out, one of the two law firms representing plaintiffs in this case against Trump — coincidentally, appointed by the judge overseeing the case whom Trump has (it appears rightly) accused of being “hater” and “very hostile” — have some ties to Hillary and Bill Clinton.
As in half a million dollars worth of ties.…

I’ve got several very moving images here but, before I dive into them, I want to make sure you read the story of Army Sergeant James John Regan, the man whose life and death led to this picture, one so moving that it has appeared repeatedly on social media every Memorial Day since his death in 2007:…

As we prepare to celebrate Memorial Day to pause in thanks for the sacrifices made by millions of Americans who died while fighting to preserve freedom, a documentary called These Hallowed Grounds reminds us that our war dead are not just interred here at home, but are spread across the world on battlefields almost lost to the memory of far too many of us.…

There are places where America’s war dead are best known and still mourned. Section 60 in Arlington National Cemetery is but one example and yet stone sentinels of forgotten military men jut out from rolling grassy hills all across this country. When my teenage son realized that Monday isn’t just a school holiday but is, in fact, a national holiday honoring the men and women who have died serving our country, he made an interesting comment about those who died. “It’s hard to appreciate that they’re real people because you never know who they are.”…

…On this day in 1836 the Ancient Order of Hibernians was formed in NYC. This is a Catholic organization dedicated to conservative principles of the Catholic Church and was initially intended to protect Catholic churches from anti-Catholic forces. They're most known in the US for their sponsorship and organization of the NYC Saint Patrick's Day parade. However in 1993, thanks to the efforts of the militant Gaystapo, the parade was turned over to an independent organization.…

…An authoritarian progressive has hijacked conservatives’ party with all the good will of Mohamed Atta. If the mob of Kool Aid–guzzling cretins who helped him do it think conservatives will now obediently fall into line behind them while they fly the plane 9/11 style at what is left of America’s founding principles, they are even more delusional than I thought. Far better for the plane to go down in Shanksville.…
When Indiana got called for Trump last night, I went on Twitter to take the temperature of Trump supporters. … most of the tweets fell into one of two conflicting categories:
• You crybaby losers! Now unite behind our guy or it’s your fault if he loses!
• Screw you, crybaby losers! We don’t need you!
Well, which is it? You need all Republicans to unite or you don’t need all Republicans to unite? It can’t be both.…
Political Theater
…As we forge ahead into this critical 2016 election season, let us not forget the real history of America when blacks and whites, primarily Republicans, worked side by side defending the rights and dignity of all Americans. It’s a history that has been kept out of the history books--a history that today’s Democrats routinely lie about while promptly pointing their finger at Republicans, calling white Republicans racists and black Republicans Uncle Toms. This is because Democrats have a secret past that must be protected and an agenda that must be fulfilled.…

Citizenship
…The most important national treasure we have is our sovereignty, and from that our citizenship. This is not just about the rhetoric of “building a wall” but we must piece by piece, issue by issue decipher the cancer that is illegal immigration in the United States. This has nothing to do with xenophobia or racism. Either you believe we are a nation or you do not, simple.
Illegal immigration is a multi-headed hydra that adversely affects many operational systems of the United States. It affects our taxation, our education, our healthcare, our national security, and our domestic criminality — as with President Obama releasing nearly 20,000 criminal illegal immigrants, which folks is redundant– meaning if you are here “illegally” you’ve already committed a crime — kinda redundant wouldn’t you say?…

Proponents of autonomous vehicles are in a sticky situation. Self-driving technology is expected to have a tremendous impact on public health and reduce the 1.25 million deaths every year on global roads. At the same time, this emerging technology is a threat to the employment of the millions who are paid to sit behind the wheel — from truck drivers to cab drivers and delivery workers.
Baidu chief scientist Andrew Ng, an expert in the world of artificial intelligence, acknowledges the unemployment concerns, but he sees a way forward that offers society the benefits of autonomous vehicles and blunts the negative impact of job losses.…

US Election 2016
Senate Majority Leader Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) is scheming to slam the door of the Senate in the face of another conservative Republican like Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX).
McConnell’s super PAC has aggressively bought air time to ensure establishment candidate Rep. Todd Young (R-IN) replaces retiring Sen. Dan Coats. Young is running in the primary against Rep. Marlin Stutzman (R-IN) – a member of the House Freedom Caucus who voted against former Speaker John Boehner. In addition to McConnell’s super PAC, establishment GOP ally the U.S. Chamber of Commerce has spent $1 million to promote Young and keep out anti-establishment Stutzman.…
