* waves to farmer *

!

Suddenly, I feel the mists of Morpheus enfolding me.

To sleep, then, to rest the body and mind, to dream, and to imagine tomorrow can be better.

Or at least to wake up and find out what happens next.

Watch ye therefore: for ye know not when the master of the house cometh, at even, or at midnight, or at the cockcrowing, or in the morning: Lest coming suddenly he find you sleeping. And what I say unto you I say unto all, Watch.

Me: And They can't get me 'til Tuesday. I'll take it.

Ricardo Kill #427 Who is "They", mindful?

Heh. The ones out to get me, of course, thanks for asking. Could be creditors, could be revenoors, could be other people who want something from me. But all abide by business hours. Fortunately, not relatives.

Meanwhile, I sit here sipping my beverage, listening to the dog bark and the cattle complaining, and lurking on discussions too advanced for me to add anything. Taking the good when I've got it.

It's Saturday night. I'm home safe. And They can't get me 'til Tuesday. I'll take it.

Read the post, but didn't (yet) follow all the links or watch all the vids. So, full appreciation is pending, but, temporary review: nice post, CDR M.

So do we get Maet back tomorrow? Will he have the top tens lists for the past two weeks? Wouldn't want him to be slacking off just because he's been vacationing.

That "find the cat among the owls" puzzle is usually harder! :D

I suspect a bit of photo manipulations may have gone on with some of these!

Oregon Muse, sweet, and sad, story about the dogs. Really hard when critters just disappear. F'r instance:

Saw an article that says the most-searched how-do-you-spell word in Oklahoma is "gray". Here's a tail of two grays.

A few cats have been very special to me. I've written about my dear friend Charlie, a true Godsend.

Charlie's tail (and Max's)
http://acecomments.mu.nu/?blog=86&post=361844#c24945709

But years before Charlie, there was Fortune.

Here in Oklahoma, one does not generally walk - where our in-town "office" is, there are no sidewalks. But, for some reason, one sunny day, I was walking along the highway. This is a five-lane affair, with one of those head-on left-turn lanes in the center. ("Suicide lane" my neighbor calls it.)

As I walked along, I saw what I thought was a bit of brush or trash rolling under a car. Then I saw it stand up and start hissing ferociously. Traffic was moderate, but dangerous. Fortunately, the kitten had made it to the relative safety of the center lane.

I managed to get over to the center lane and pick it up, cradling it in my tee-shirt. A really young, medium-haired gray kitten with spots of white and a scary amount of blood. I figure someone had just thrown it out the car window. I wondered if it was fatally damaged.

I took it back to the office, washed off the blood in the bathroom sink, and saw that the only apparent damage was a cut lip (inasmuch as cats have lips). Amazing, resilient kitty. I remember Daughter walking in and seeing me holding this tiny wet creature; she wondered, why is Dad holding a rat?

So, the fortunate survivor kitty got the name Fortune, and joined us living at the farm. I really liked that kitty and she was "mine" in a special way. We had a bad patch when, after being spayed, her stitches opened up. (We had a new vet at the time, and moved on to another after that.) Can still picture Milady, on the east porch, holding Fortune's flesh together to keep her guts in.

One day, I looked out on the east porch, and there on the table I thought I saw Fortune, but it was another cat, almost identical, who just showed up. That cat got the name General Gray. It was difficult to tell them apart at a distance. Behaviorally, they were easy to tell apart: The General was a little more aggressive than my sweet gal Fortune.

Fortune liked to get up on the trampoline with Milady when she exercised.

One day Fortune was just gone. Heartbreaking when that happens with any cat, but especially one so dear. For a while, it was hard to look at Gen. Gray, because, every time, I'd wonder, is this Fortune returned?

Miss you, little Miss Fortune.

General Gray stayed with us for years, eventually expiring naturally.

naturalfake: ...The most spectacular character in XMen: Apocalypse with the best action sequences is "Quicksilver".
Who is a complete "Flash" ripoff, right down to the positive, confident, yet spritely attitude.

Yeah, this is the 2nd time Quicksilver's scene has been one of the best scenes in the x-flick.

If the TV Flash were done with that kind of quality, it would be much better, but I've gotta say, the movie Quicksilver seems to be so fast he makes the TV Flash seem like he's standing still.

When I were a tyke, I asked my mommy to subscribe to two comic books for me, the Flash and Green Lantern. Which were brand-new (silver age versions) at the time. Flash has always been dear to me. BTW, Mom did, to her credit, subscribe for me - despite heavy anti-comic-book advices of the time. Imagine my disappointment to find they shipped them folded in half (veritically). Still, I always ran when I heard the mail flap clank.

Say, this thread has been superceded already!

Well, one more thought - worth repeating (h/t Sticky Wicket on the ONT)

"Uphill barefoot both ways through the snow" has nothing on these kids' commute to school. Nearly as dangerous as an urban school bus:

Picking up a thread from the Overnight - someone asked Nevergiveup if the sound of the drill didn't bother dentists like it bothers the customers.

My thought was, like the cowboys 'round these parts say about the odor of cowflop - it's the smell of money. Or the sound of, in the dentist's drill case.

(Could use smell: personally, it's that odor of burnt bone when drilling that gets to me.)

Seamus Muldoon: ...Tomorrow's diary entry is a doozy. One of my favorites.

Way to bait the anticipation there, Seamus!

Seamus Muldoon: ...PW count was well over 4000.

Even a not-much-happening entry is intriguing - maybe moreso, thinking about these Americans lounging around Italy between battles.

Especially intriguing to read these, knowing now how the war turned out, but they couldn't be sure at the time of writing. If we could just have 70 years' future perspective on our own times' battles...!

NDH's open thread is one of the funniest things I've seen on AoSHQ in a long time. Five whole comments!

I'd go back and add one myself, but, you know, don't comment on old threads and all that.

Hmmm. Must be bedtime, ready or not.

As soon as I can get my little fuzzy yellow kitteh off my lap. So. hard. to. do.

"Prosperity" appears 17 times in the Old Testament. Nowhere in the New.

Let them shout for joy, and be glad, that favour my righteous cause: yea, let them say continually, Let the Lord be magnified, which hath pleasure in the prosperity of his servant. And my tongue shall speak of thy righteousness and of thy praise all the day long.

Slapweasel: Turns out it is "shawarma".

Yeah, that was a good scene.

Was just thinking of a scene that brought something new to a character (AFAIK - haven't read the comics in many years) - Bruce Banner's saying, right before he transforms, "I'm always angry." A riff on Bixby's worn out line, "you wouldn't like me when I'm angry," a great depiction of the transformation, and good display of the Hulk's power in his taking down that contraption.

Now y'got me wanting to see that flick again. Adds to the list, under Rocketeer (thanks to Jennifer Connelly gif & discussions above).
