And while I know it's only a courtesy, not a requirement, I apologize for my outbursts amidst Vic's report. Especially on such a quiet Sunday morning, I feel like I was shouting in church or something. Textual equivalent of photobombing?

OBAMA ENCOURAGES TODDLER-BEHEADINGS

Folks have said, TFG could murder a baby on live TV and his followers would excuse it.

His playing with his golf balls while his surrogates behead toddlers certainly doesn't seem to have affected any of those minds.

Vic: "...the outrageous behavior of the black principle."

Not necessarily a tyop. The principal problem is the racist principle.

really, really old #666-grabbing sock - I'm on my wife's cell which I haven't used for a long time.

FAILY FAILY FAIL first thing in the morning.

Wish I'd left an appropriate message for the handle.

The Giant Moon went down and we had a few moments of almost-dark before the dawn began breaking. It's a beautiful morning for August in Oklahoma.

Laurie David's Cervix:

"I ordered 1 of something and they sent me a case."

"Did you order 1 'item' or 1 "case of the item"

"Ummm..."

HAHAHAHA. UMMMMMMM

My first (admittedly stupid) business ended when I had this phone conversation.

Me: "We want to order another bundle of 3"x4"x8' redwood for our greenhouse kits." (Used only in certain parts of them; we were making them one-at-a-time when ordered.)

Lumber yard: "Okay, but you know you have this big order coming in at the end of the month."

Me: "What?? No. What big order?"

Yard: "A boxcar." (Enough 2x4x8 redwood to build redwood decks for everyone in town.)

[appropriate stunned silence while I catch my breath]

Me, weakly: "We don't have any purchase order on that." (I had thought we had systems for this kind of thing.)

Yard: "No, we just took it on a phone order, after so much good business with you."

Me: "Who (he said, knowingly) put in that order?"

Yard: "A Mister [recently fired manager]." (And I think it wasn't even revenge or anything - he did it before he was fired, probably thinking he was doing the right thing for us.)

Me: "We can never use that much of that. Can we stop that order?" (he said, dreadfully)

Yard: "It's mostly milled. We can cancel it. But we can never do business again."

Me: "Perfectly understandable. Good-bye."

Our corporation never could make good on that order. Worst injury I've ever felt responsible for in business. We went under, tucked tail, even left that state, pursued by an entirely separate half-million-dollar lawsuit also generated in part by that same ex-employee's actions. Memories. Sweetened through the ages just like bile.

flounder: "...hug your cats. The wife lost hers of 17 years today."

Seventeen years is a magnificent run. First thing this morning I sat with the Old Gray Fellow in my lap. We picked up him and his sister as tiny kittens, dumped on the road-side. Now they're getting on in years. Being a house-pisser and thus an outside cat, he never got as many hugs as he needed. I try to give him lap time.

Today, I was looking through photos from back when the kids were young and we had the three original (unstoppable) litters of farm cats around. Every one of those cats is so long gone now, some died young, some got old, but all gone. I don't miss having that many, but as I looked through their pictures, I missed each and every one of them in particular.

Edgar Cayce - heh. I read a lot of Cayce books, too, in my yout'. Learned that what I was reading was always what his handlers parsed out, and never did find anything that wasn't some "best of" like collection. Edgar Cayce on Nutrition. Edgar Cayce on Atlantis. Snippets. Might have liked to see more full, raw transcripts of his sessions.

It's been forty years and many words read since, so I only remember a bit of his work, but I remember thinking the Sleeping Prophet really did have something going on, actual visions as opposed to making stuff up. Whether that something was any % prophetic, I couldn't tell.

Most times, I think, even when the Spirit manages to squeeze a word in edgewise in our thinking, we immediately clutter it up with so many barnacles of our own ideas the original thought is practically devalued.

Many a wild Ism started that way, too, I'm sure!

The boys and their goat - yes, as someone said, had to watch.

What got me: Their bestial reputation is famous, of course, and often mentioned on here (from folks who have been there, even!) yet I had had still thought of this kind of thing as something one would do behind the bushes down in the gully where no one can see, you know, with some measure of embarrassment if not shame. I didn't really realilze it was open plain-sight group sport.

Egad, that's baaaaaad.

Would have been safer using one of their "self-driving" cars.

Remember this when IBM talks about making a computer that works like a human brain. What we need are brains that think as clearly as a computer.

But, really, like a car, all computers basically just do what they're told. "Self-driving cars," and unattended computer programs running - they're just like wind-up toys someone let go like the paper airplane that sails across the room and pokes you in the eye; it's not an accident it's a carelessness. Who programs computers? That's right. Meat.

NDH: "Nostradamus was interpreted..."

Heh. 'Bout the same time, I suppose, that I read Lindsay, I read a book of interpretations of Nostradamus. I was forever persuaded... that ol' Nost was a very clever fraud, and as for interpretations of his couplets, what's that old lyric, a man sees what he wants to see and disregards the rest.

But I admired his PT Barnum-like marketing skills! I used to cast Tarot cards. It was educational to "read" the cards and have folks say, "oh, that's so right," coming up with detailed personal insights derived from my generalized statements. Sometimes folks just need a little objective reflection to get perspective on their situation. If I'd said the same thing without the silly cards, they'd've blown it off.

No wonder Astrology columns persist.

If I had been dishonest, I could definitely see the enormous potential for deception, manipulation, and ripoff. (I charged a quarter a cast.)

Don't mind me. I'm just sitting here rambling in the corner.

I first read Hal Lindsay's Devil is Alive and Well on Planet Earth in 1973, I guess, when I was going through a surge of spiritual curiosity. Never did know where follow got the apocalptic interpretations of scripture. (Episcopal upbringing didn't cover that very much.)

When I read Linday's interpretations of Revelations and all, he said, the Bear (Russia) will do this and in the Middle East that will happen and the Eagle (USA) something something. Funny thing to me was, none of it seemed to fit the circumstances of the world the way Lindsay said it did. Never went in much for prophetic doomsaying, anyway. Didn't expect Armegeddon in the 1980s or 1990s, whatever he predicted.

I don't remember much of it, really. But in recent days, it has occurred to me that circumstances today are much more like what he was describing. Hmmmm.

Good News

The evil Prince of this world has been cast down.

Bad News

Cast down is not the same as hauled off.

He's not in power, but like a superpowered Jimmy Carter with a fan club, he's still running around setting fires and saying, "See! There is no God that can stop me."

Keep praying for Swift Judgment. And, carefully explain to the Almighty that by "swift," we mean more on our standards of time. Notmywillbutyoursbedoneamen.
