Okay, seriously. It's embarrassing, but...

Went to high school with a Tandy heir. His daddy said, who do you want for your band at the graduation party? Son said, Chicago.

1970. Their back yard. Chicago.

That was a very, very memorable garden party!

Thank you, classmate!

Well f. Accidentally closed a tab that had my oh-so-carefully-crafted message all composed and ready.

Browsers are SO STUPID!

I'm about to log off for the night, so, here:

for those who cut'n'paste to comments on Ace:

ASCII-izer

With this program, Windows users (and Windows-emulator users mayyybe) who cut & paste and cannot then post sometimes on Ace of Spades may get some relief from submission errors occurring since the server crash of May 12.

How it works: Copy some text to the clipboard. Click on the ASCII-izer program. The text in the clipboard has been corrected. There's more features, but that's the basics. Converts all those pesky quotation marks, apostrophes, long hyphens, ellipses, and other "advanced computer age" characters you're trying to cut'n'paste but which are unacceptable to the last-millennium commenting software on the Ace of Spades blog. A quick'n'dirty one-day hack. Not great, but may work for you. Have mercy, critics!

First Doonesbury I've read in many a year.

Last one I hope I'll ever see.

I remember reading the very first strips. It had its moments in its infancy. The character-driven stuff always excelled; the editorializing sucked and then got worse.

Megaphone Mark screaming "GUILTY! GUILTY! GUILTY!" about Nixon on his "radio show" and getting banned by newspapers is still funny. WTF, world? It's an obviously drug-addled radical yuppie on a college radio station in a comic strip. It's FUNNY! Well, it was.

Better Feared than Loved: "Why doesn't the government build a secure bio-hazard treatment center on an island instead of in the middle of a metropolitan area?"

Guantanomo has been repeatedly suggested. Among the finest of smart military blog commenters, at least.

Better Feared than Loved: "I like my health professionals to be a lot more paranoid."

LOTS! MORE! PARANOID!

Maet's posts are to be savored. Read a section, then follow some comments. Go back, read some more, read some comments. Sometimes comments lead you back up to the post. Watch a video. Follow a link. Read some comments.

It's almost like you have.. the entire night... to luxuriate in this.

BUT YOU DON'T.

Wait, wait, I didn't leave. By dint of most infortuitous circumstances, I'm still hanging around here. (So waht?)

I took four years of Latin, which was useless, except that it helped with the three years of High School Spanish. But it was all formal Spanish. Taught by people from Argentina who wished they lived in Spain. That does me what good talking to my neighbors from South of the Border and across the Great American SouthWest? Worse than speaking formal high-tone British to a Texas cowhand.

I always heard that the best way to learn "real" Espa*ol -- you know, all the jargon, the idioms... okay, the hardcore cusswords -- was to have a Spanish-speaking girlfriend. Now, that sounded like a good plan to me, as long as I didn't have to keep her around for the blimped-out mama stage. So, I thought about that a lot when I lived out in New Mexico. When I asked, though, the Mrs shot the idea down. She did suggest maybe she should get a Spanish girlfriend, instead, which at first seemed tempting, but, you know, they'd start talking Espa*ol behind my back, and I wouldn't know what the [insert word] they were saying. Next thing you know... Well, it sounds good in theory....

Just watched the final episode of Warehouse 13.

Just before we watched it, we watched the San Diego Comic Con Cosplay video embedded above. Then in the Warehouse 13, the con gets passing mention. Synchroni City, baby. It was kinda cute.

I read a bunch of critical reviews of the last season before we launched into it. That just lowered my expectations, such that I was happy to find out it wasn't all that bad. A series closer that actually gave closure. Thanks, Warehouse 13. I'll give you that. Just like your sister show Eureka.

At this point, there's no more TV series we're following, if I don't count several we've abandoned. I could try again and see if I could get through the whole Firefly series this time.

Just blathering. Haven't read a comment since about #100, and probably won't. So, what am I doing here?

Oh yeah.

Wishing everyone sweet dreams, or bland ones at worst. Good night, Gracies.

Boy, that last picture was one of the toughest hidden-kitteh pix I've ever seen, but I think I found it. On the right side, halfway down, amid that dab of clutter, right?

Who's that lady in the loud outfit?

And the first cat pic: If it were orange, that would surely be Bill from Bloom County.

HOWDY, Y'all. Gloom, doom, bloom, and shroom won't stop us.

The countdown is ticking as Ace and his trusty squad the Horde of Spades travel to the jungles of Peruvia, employing their smartmilitaryblog Hive Mind powers to prevent the evil Legion of Trolls from obtaining Haggisolulum, which would convert Kate Upton to Islam. Also, play the Game. (Yes, boys, the special Upton code does just what you expect.)

cth: "Weirder... Words fail me."

I know.

There are those for whom truthiness is a commodity to be employed only when absolutely necessary and then only to serve deception and duplicity. Wittingly or un-, those serve the Enemy.

Then, there are some who pray, "Shew me thy ways, O Lord; teach me thy paths. Lead me in thy truth, and teach me: for thou art the God of my salvation; on thee do I wait all the day."

[Oddly, they forgot to put the emphasis in the original. Troublesome early fonts, I suppose.]

The Spirit of Truth is certainly a Great Mystery, isn't it? What's that about?

EGAD! They've completely re-designed Bible Gateway! Naturally, I hate it, because it's Change. Took me several actual precious moments to find the link on a single-verse page to move to the whole-chapter page, but it was still there. So, okay, I'll give them time for me to get used to it. At least they kept my cookies, so everything still comes up KJV default. :)

This is incredible.

Those old long underwear characters were buried with Dark Knight and Watchmen (and maybe Mysterymen), if not by Gwen Stacy's cloning. Walking ghost franchises stolen from the original creators are all that's left. Zombie Archie Andrews.

The world's smartest militant blog is two posts deeply embroiled with movie versions of franchise-overkill superheroes while the whole world is boiling us frogs for real? Outrageous! What are you people thinking?

There are so many more important matters! Syrias matters!

Like, whatever happened to the third installment of Mage?

Will we ever see Bone fully realized on the big screen (please God NOT done by that Hobbit movies guy)?

Why did Cerebus finally jump the sharknado when it got to the Hemingway sequence (did I just answer my own question?)?

Concrete would be a great TV series.

Full-length animated adaptation of Journey, that comic about 1800s frontier (by, um, who was it? Wow, that's a hard title to google...).

If we must have superhero comic adaptations, what about Nexus or Badger, or better yet Nexus and Badger? You want crazy-ass supers....

See what I mean? So many more important things.

Oh, but, hey, I hope Flash is a fun series. In the previews, Weather Wizard looks all dark and sinister instead of colorful and fun, though. What was mainly wrong with the last version was it was all "make it tight and dark like Batman" instead of bright and light and colorful with lots of room to stretch out like the Silver Age art by Infantino.
http://www.carmineinfantino.com/

Because, Flash was one of my first regular comics in my hard-to-find-them-on-the-drugstore-spinners little town. My mommy had some hesitation, I think, about allowing me to subscribe to Flash and Green Lantern, but she allowed it. They mailed it in a brown wrapper, folded in half vertically. I was both excited and appalled.

What?
