So, yesterday, Mrs came home in the afternoon to discover the electricity had evidently been off for a while.

She reset the clocks... except the coffeemaker.

I found I was wide awake at 4:45 and then I heard the coffee maker beeping. Well, I thought, at least if I'm awake, I've got a fresh pot of coffee!

Not exactly. That was the beep of the coffee maker going off.

So maybe it was the subtle essence of brew wafting through the bedroom awakened me.

Whatever. Hi. It's dark. 'Way too early. But I have coffee.

Am I early or is this page late? It's late for me in any case, but HI!

I had an old filling pulled out this morning and a new one put in. I'm pretty sure he installed a microchip, while he was at it. But the voices seem friendly.

I haven't been keeping up much lately. Did it get mentioned about how the Seven First-Class Passengers Give Up Their Seats To Marines Returning From Afghanistan? http://bit.ly/1cUqloh

Just got back from the dentist and boy are my jaws tired.

100 years from now we may have full decay prevention; be able to regrow decayed enamel; folks may have straight, new-looking teeth in their nineties.

For now, for myself, I'm grateful I'm not living 100 years ago or I'd be taking all my food pureed. Yay, modern medicine.

Pardon the babble. I was looking for an open thread but got lost in the hallway.

Did this already come up?

On Monday, Attorney General Eric Holder said that despite Zimmerman's acquittal in his second-degree murder trial, the Department of Justice was still considering whether to bring civil rights charges against Zimmerman in order to make his life a living hell and pour gasoline on the fires of racial division. "I'm not sure exactly how much longer that will take, but we will get to a point where we are able to make a determination," rasped the voice of the traitorous mass murderer.

Good morning from a state with solid Republican (albeit not always my idea of Constitutional conservative) almost all seats - State and National. Got liberty?

Welcome back Vicnews. Hi everybody. Some soft news, as they say:

Research has found a link between the amount of grey matter in one specific brain region and an individual's likelihood of conforming to social pressures. (Feb. 20, 2012)
Science Daily http://bit.ly/19AipJb

Just mentioning it because, you know, conformity is a bad thing, right? Wait....

Which reminds me...

Guess Whoooo

:: beatbox thumps rapidly ::

I make this job look easy,
Like I'm not even trying.
I really like to hear myself
When I am speechifying.
I say whatever comes to mind.
I'm great at bald-faced lying.
I'm really good at killing folks.
Don't care about who's dying.

I'm really good at killing folks.
Don't care about who's dying.

Yeah! It's
Not about you you you.
Don't you see, see, see?
But just for a minute
Let's talk about you.
So,
What do you think of me me me?

I I I
uh uh uh
I oh me oh mine

:: xylophonic bridge ::

I could only be better
If I had my own clone.
And me and I could
both run a drone
And bounce the rubble
while snuggling alone...

:: screeech ((silence)) ::

oh,

um,

I lost my train of thought there for a moment.

::giggle::

Hold on.

One term is all there'd be.
I promised you could keep your

But I will set it all right
during term number three!

Yes I will set it all right
during term number three!

A note for those of you who tweet. "Just 16 percent of U.S. adults are on Twitter at all."

"[W]ith only a small fraction of adults on Twitter, the reality outside of it may sometimes be much different," Mandy Nagy concludes.

Clever seems largely in the appropriateness, so Vic, Joe, EC, Captain Hate, you know, they fit. It's hard to top "Peaches"!

Oh, well, occasionally, yeah, I do use an obviously joke name, you know, like Blarney Carney or His Imperial Hiney, but just for a comment or two. But only then.

Good heavens, folks. Why would we need an old-fashioned militia in this day and age? That's just silly.

Say, a funny comparison I noticed this evening:

Politico headline: Arming TSA officers hits resistance on the Hill
Politico http://politi.co/1bWvL18

Breitbart headline: Capitol Hill Resists Union's Call for Armed TSA Agents
Breitbart http://bit.ly/178HiwI

Drudge headline (linked to Politico): Union moves to arm TSA agents...

Notice how some sources focus on "Capitol Hill" while that crazy Drudge guy focuses on the Union angle.

Oh, also this amusing item.

DHS to Hire "Top Secret" Domestic Security Force
Infowars http://bit.ly/1a6gICB

That Alex Jones, what a certifiable tinfoil-hat loon!

All of these things just tell us how safe we are.

Now, about militias. What were you wacko birds saying?

If a digital clock loses power, when it comes back on it flashes 12:00. So it's still right twice a day.
Posted by: rickl

siigh! If it's a 24-hr clock, it's right once a day. If it comes back on and starts running, it's never right (unless it powered back on right at Midnight). If it comes back on at all, can we truly call it stopped as opposed to merely reset by a power fluctuation which didn't happen to the old Grandfather pendulum.

If you're going to pick nits, dig in and pick, man, for Heaven's sake!

Speaking of Pon Raul, ssssorry about prev styleguide faux pas. What's the right term again?

And you know the thing about stopped clocks?

Digital age kids have know idea what right twice a day means.

Or, come to think of it, quarter of; or quarter after; or half past; or why you'd say ten 'til nine when it's clearly 8:50.

Or what the heck you are talking about when you talk about where Mickey's hands point.

I'd say something snarky (takes one to know one), except that's 'way too harsh on ol' Ron when he speaks sanely. This time.

Much as I hate to admit caring... I checked Wikipedia.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shocker_(hand_gesture)

"the back of the hand faces outwards (away from the gesturer)" so they're doing it wrong? So to sqeak?

Also,

"Because the athletic teams of the Wichita State University are nicknamed 'the Shockers' (short for 'Wheatshockers,' an unrelated term), fans at basketball games, use a modified form of the gesture by extending the thumb." So, sporty.

Everything means something dirty to somebody. Ask Beavis.

Y'know the saying, gun control is hitting what you aim at?

A well regulated militia is responsive because you have an informed citizenry. Well-armed and ready, obviously. Expected to be able to hit what they aim at, implicitly. Able to aim coordinatedly, preferably. But importantly, when you call out, "The redcoats are coming!" you don't have to explain who the redcoats are, or why that announcement means, "Grab your muskets and come a-runnin'." Update terms as needed.
