Milady and I were at O'Hare, meeting an elderly gentleman about a business deal, when that broke on the TVs. Our acquaintance remarked that he remembered the first time.
Took us a beat to realize he meant 1917.

I'll always remember a live feed -- CNN, I think -- of Russian tanks, in Moscow -- these young boys sitting atop the tanks, these little ol' grammas in their babushkas shaking their umbrellas and yelling at them. The boys almost wanly smiling. No Tiannamen Square was going to happen in that scenario. And no translation needed. It was clearly over.

The new Roots makeover should've had non-blacks in all the African roles. And the slaveholders all played by Thai trannies. Because, Diversity!
Can't believe I'm saying this, but... the new Monkees album, Good Times, is not unlistenable. Some good stuff. I was not a big fan - my little sister had all the albums - but they definitely had some good songs.
And Good Times is evocative, not just of the old Monkees' sound, but of the music of their heyday, before everything had to be cynical, depressing, and complicated. Some songs sound like they needed Davy Jones's voice. Thought I detected some little bits of tribute to other bands.

Watched a little of the Vincent Price one. Got to thinking, this might actually work by re-doing the video to include the script.
Then again, was it Fahrenheit 451 or something else which had the "immersive TV" idea, where folks had their scripts and played roles in TV dramas? Maybe not such a good idea...?
