Oklahoma's Next US Senator

We in Oklahoma soon get to choose a new Senator. Republican primary winner takes all.

The two leading candidates are James Langford and TW Shannon, who are polling neck-and-neck.

In 1980, my home-town yard-sign assessment told me we were in for eight years of Reagan. I was right. Actually, I was low, because GHw Bush was a Reagan coattail victory.

In 2014, using the same techniques, Lankford would be my projected winner, except the party, and politics, have changed. The "tea party" silent majority types are not obvious but are out in force. I hope.

Neither Shannon nor Lankford is 100%, each has some good cred, some stumbles. My gut assessment is that Langford is a potential .. who's the not McCain AZ Senator? Flakey? .. like him, but not quite so obviously a DIABLO. Shannon seems to me to be the more honest and trustworthy candidate. He's also got the backing of Cruz, Lee, Palin, and Levin.

I dissect the two candidates' respective mailers here:

One other mystic measurement.

I repeatedly have received texts on my cell for Lankford. I don't even like it when my phone provider sends me texts! Unwelcome! Meanwhile, Shannon's spot ads show up all over web pages I visit, including here! Shannon for the win on use of modern media.

One other reason I'd like Shannon to win. Oklahoma's most conservative ever speaker of the house also happens to be of African and Cherokee descent. Not that it matters to me, but I expect an intelligent, well-spoken, ethnic-mix conservative in the Senate could cause many amusing regressive bigot head explosions.
