Shebeen

Poppins: Funny stuff.

"Pat and Mike were walking down Broadway, having indulged in a morning's morning at the old shebeen...."

Noting that I may have forgotten more words than I remember, I don't recall previously encountering "shebeen." Obviously, by context, it means "church."* Wonder what might be its etymology.
