really? no surprise.
As when he didn't know the name of various soldiers, including the one on his memorial bracelet, can't count the number of states, and the mispronunciation of corpsman, I would not discount that the stupidity is a symptom of being utterly uncaring about any of these things. What matters to him is that he's speaking, and he cares nothing about the content delivered in his droning cadence - content which he doesn't care about or believe in.
