Governing Ourselves
…“Alright. We’re tired of shopping with masks on,” Chris Nelson, who organized the event, said while holding up his phone as “We’re Not Gonna Take It” began to play in the background.
“And now, we’re taking our masks off because we’re done with it,” he said as others began taking their masks off in the store.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) recently warned that “dangerous new policies” made by Postmaster General Louis DeJoy, who took the top job at the US Postal Service in June, will prevent mail-in ballots from being counted. Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) has charged that there is a conspiracy afoot to “undermine and dismantle the post office ahead of the November election.”
This is rank, irresponsible scaremongering.…

This is the kind of stuff I originally set out to bookmark on this Blog Heap o'Links, long ago.
I still have that undying love and belief in this country, that it is the most exceptional country on the planet, populated by an extraordinary people.
Nothing will ever shake that belief.
We have prevailed in similar perilous times throughout our history because we are Americans, by virtue of a political system unique in the world.
Like Jim in Galveston, I and so many others took that oath with no expiration. It is clear to me that at some point we'll be called on to fulfill it.
What form it will take is unknown to me right now, but there will be no hesitation.
There is no doubt we'll prevail, no matter the cost--because we ARE Americans, and as such are denied the option of failure.
Never forget that.

…“In a free country like the Netherlands, everyone has the freedom and space to behave and dress as he or she desires. Sometimes, limits can and must be imposed on that freedom. In the case of face-covering clothing, this applies in particular if mutual communication is impeded or safety is jeopardized.
“Mutual communication whereby people can look each other in the face is so important that uniform rules have now been laid down by law. This makes it clear to everyone what is and is not allowed in those situations.”…
We, as a country, should pick - either we have sales tax or income tax.
Not both.
In fact pass a law like that.
…In Caputo’s closing statement obtained by the Washington Examiner, he said the panel's investigation “forced” his family out of their home and “crushed” his children due to mounting legal costs associated with the inquiry.
"Today, I can’t possibly pay the attendant legal costs and live near my aging father, raising my kids where I grew up,” Caputo said. “Your investigation and others into the allegations of Trump campaign collusion with Russia are costing my family a great deal of money — more than $125,000 — and making a visceral impact on my children."…

…It wasn't about the facts in the case - it was about the fact that the 9th Circuit ruled that the Officer should have known Judicial Precedent was against him, because of a decision that they handed down some months AFTER the shooting. Seriously, that was the 9th Circuit's reasoning.
The Supreme Court, in a surprising 7-2 margin, took this rather insignificant case about a lawsuit just for the chance to once again publicly slap down the 9th Circuit and tell them they are all ignoramuses who wouldn't know a legal precedent if it jumped up on the table and danced and sang a little song saying "I am a Legal Precedent!"
No man is moral in his own right. We are made of crooked timber. The system the founders sought was not one intended to elect the right people to do whatever they thought best, but rather one to prevent and restrain any man from doing what his nature would naturally bid him to do. The Constitution isn't a writ of authority, it is a restraining order. And we have watched the elites for generations trying to shed the shackles that the Constitution had rightly placed upon them. And the overbearing government we now possess is precisely the result we should expect now that they have largely shed those constraints and are acting exactly as the founders feared.
Fuck Daylight Savings, the capricious and tyrannical ability of the state to impose its will on us.

YouTube on Wednesday terminated the account of Danney Williams, the 30-year-old man who has claimed since the 1990s to be the black son of former President Bill Clinton.

As such, we have unsuspended your account.”
When it terminated the account on Wednesday, YouTube cited unspecified “repeated or severe violations of our Terms of Use and/or Community Guidelines” and declared the account “cannot be restored.”…
