The Oklahoma State Penitentiary Rodeo has been an Oklahoma tradition since 1940. Part Wild West show and part Coliseum-style spectacle, the rodeo is part of Oklahoma's history that remained largely unchanged until the addition of women to the rodeo.

Demolition crews are busy tearing down an old bridge leading to downtown Tulsa. It's the Boulder Bridge, going across the railroad tracks on the north edge of downtown. The bridge was built eight decades ago and has just become too unsafe to keep open. Construction on the Boulder Bridge near Tulsa Union Station began in 1929. Now, the bridge is coming down.

On May 20, 2008, the Rock Cafe nearly burned to the ground, tearing apart a piece of Oklahoma history. Rock Cafe owner Dawn Welch has been putting the puzzle back for a little more than a year.

A Bartlesville police officer currently on administrative leave was arraigned Wednesday on charges of obtaining merchandise by false pretense. Ronald Robert Sweeten Jr. was arraigned in Nowata County on charges stemming from an incident alleged to have occurred in 2007. ... used his position at the Bartlesville Police Department to transfer a valuable Colt M-16 rifle owned by the BPD to himself for $500 by going through a Nowata gun dealer.

A Southwest Oklahoma man is all smiles after a horse he found won the Kentucky Derby. Frederick native Ralph Kinder finds race horses for a living--potential winners that no one has discovered yet. And Kinder sure found one. He found Mine that Bird last fall during a trip to Canada. He then bought the horse for the Double Eagle Ranch in New Mexico.

Gov. Brad Henry today applauded state senators for sustaining his veto of a bill that would have made it a crime for a scientist to perform any form of embryonic stem cell research. Senators voted 26-19 this morning to override his veto. Senators needed 32 votes to override it. The Republican-controlled Senate took up the override attempt minutes after the House voted to override the governor's action.

None of the sirens in Bartlesville went off despite two tornado warnings. The Washington County Emergency Management team stands by its decision. It released a statement saying, "the tornado was weak and short lived....and based on the information that our office received from NWS and trained spotters on the field, we believed the significant tornado threat would remain to the south and east of Bartlesville." However, some people wished they would have been warned.

The State Legislature honored Miss Oklahoma 2008 Kelsey Cartwright this week. During her reign, Cartwright has been traveling around the state and nation promoting her platform of open adoption to nontraditional families. She got the idea from her father's experience in attempting to learn about his adoption. Oklahoma currently has closed adoption laws and has placed legal barriers in the path of those wanting information about their adoption.
