President Trump on death of Justice Ginsburg: "She just died? Wow. I didn't know that...She led an amazing life. What else can you say? She was an amazing woman, whether you agree or not. She was an amazing woman who led an amazing life. I'm actually sad to hear that."

…So here's a funny tidbit. I know someone who works for SCOTUS on their administrative staff.
Apparently, justices on the court have to serve on the various administrative committees, and the committee that they're on is determined by their tenure.
Guess what committee is reserved for the junior-most justice?
The Party Planning Committee.
I swear I'm not making this up.

…Here’s another thing that’s not getting much airplay. Trump’s inauguration is shaping up to be one of the most faith-based in a very long time, with six religious figures speaking, including Franklin Graham, Cardinal Timothy Dolan, pastor Paula White and Rev. Samuel Rodriguez of the National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference.
But it’s his inclusion of Rabbi Marvin Hier, the dean and founder of the Simon Wiesenthal Center in Los Angeles, which really sets his inauguration apart. It’s been 30 years since a Jewish rabbi has been invited to pray during a presidential inauguration. The last one was Rabbi Alfred Gottschalk, head of the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion, during Ronald Reagan’s 1985 ceremony.…

WASHINGTON — U.S. Sen. James Lankford accused Democrats of hypocrisy Wednesday for insisting that the Supreme Court vacancy be filled during a presidential election year.
Lankford, R-Oklahoma, also vowed that Republicans would ensure President Barack Obama can’t appoint someone to the high court during a Senate break.
In a speech on the Senate floor, Lankford said, “We will also not allow a recess appointment.
“That has been floated multiple times in the media — that the president will just do a recess appointment and go around us. The Senate chooses when the Senate is in recess. Not the president. So we can do this. We can remain in continuous session without recess to prevent a recess appointment by this president through the rest of this year.…”

…"The Congress, the courts, and the president ignore the Constitution we have today and our Founders knew we would eventually get to that point, and they gave us a method… to amend it to keep the federal government limited in its scope and its jurisdiction," Coburn said in an interview with the Washington Examiner.

"Most people don't think about this, but the states created the federal government -- the federal government didn't create the states," Coburn said. "And the supremacy, if you read the enumerated powers, written in the Constitution, it was very limited what the federal government was supposed to have, but everything else was supposed to be left to the states and to the people." …
[Re possibility of runaway convention] Coburn dismissed such fears.
"That's just hilarious to me," he said. "You have a runaway convention right now. You have a president that doesn't pay any attention to the Constitution. You have a Congress that doesn't fulfill its responsibility. And you have a Supreme Court that ignores its own precedents and the Founders' intent. Tell me why that isn't a runaway constitutional convention? That's what's happening to us now." …

…All Boehner has to do is squint and say that there’s a quorum present and he may hold a voice vote.
As long as no one requests a recorded vote, Boehner is free to do this.
That’s where Massie’s 500-yard sprint comes in.
Massie says he’s discovered that "it’s about a 500-yard dash between my office and the floor of the House." So, when Boehner starts to do voice votes, Massie sprints to the House floor and demands a recorded vote. That means there has to be a real quorum: 218 live people on the record with their votes. Several unpopular bills have died as a result of Massie’s dash.…
