The Art of
Martin Johnson Heade, "The Great Florida Marsh" (1886)
Strangely, Heade died that year of malaria.
This artwork is far too small, and nowhere near up to the new standard set last night by Maet - the pictorial equivalent of an Ace movie review.
I can make you a great deal on this property!
mustbequantum: I'd rather live next to a pig or chicken farm than a swamp.
Boy, talk about a close contest. That's like choosing between Hillary or Bernie!
The painting is one of those 3D illusions.
You have to squint and look "past" the surface
to see Waldo.
Well, this is different.
The lamps in the temple echo the lights in the town (I presume) below as the only parts not blue and black. Arty!
MP4: ...So the gauntlethas been thrown, sirrah?...
Hey, I was jus' saying, not criticizing... but... (looks at link), never mind, that's okay. Not at work.
MP4: ...somewhat NSFW...
Yeah, had to enlarge the pic and then squint to see nip.
garrett: You really need to be able to see the texture in VanGogh works to get the full effect of his technique. Prints just don't do him justice.
When all you have is some green and blue, go with what you got, I guess. He was poor, after all.
Last week, I mentioned I was re-reading The Time Traveler's Wife. Finished it on Friday.

What I like about the art thread lately is, here we are in the midst of winter, many of us (not me, amen) with sub-zero temperatures and snow, and the art gives us a wonderful escape to warmer days
Well... it's not dark!
Hrothgar: I went to the telnaes twitter account and she actually posted that cartoon as a gif so the little Cruz "monkeys" are indeed dancing....
Ugh
Hrothgar: Did the monkeys dance?
Ohh. You meant an animated gif.
Hrothgar: Hey at least the WaPo had the good taste not to post this as a GIF on the web version!
For those who missed the cartoon, here's a copy.
They've taken it down.
Looking at the cartoon again, I notice she just did a copy, paste, resize for the smaller monkey.
So, hypocritical, crude, and lazy.
Didn't like giving that a click, but had to see.
Camel's hump? Looks like a shark fin.
Oh, wait, someone already did that one. Okay...
Why is the water yellow? EPA was here, of course.
Kafiroon was just enhancing the art post by demonstrating effective use of white space.
Speaking of being on the eve of destruction…

Seamus Muldoon: Hjalmar Munsterhjelm? Seriously?
Oddly enough, it's pronounced "Heamus Munjoon."
When you have an excess of ochre paint, go with whatcha got.
Don't anyone tell RD it's November now.
Mama AJ & Lizzy, answered about your suggestions & comments at the willowy end of the morning thread.

If anyone can find information on this one, let me know.
Looks like autumn to me.
Daily, via RSS, except when, like this week, I've been traveling and get a day or two behind as I am at the moment. And I'll add, I always look forward to what you've come up with.
