It wasn't really that the coffeemaker was complicated. It's that it had old coffee grounds in the filter and yesterday's coffee still in the pot and I was busy reading the blog.
What I miss most, being on the road, is my dog. Next-most, this time of day, miss my own coffee! (Staring at strange coffeemaker in a friend's kitchen.
Dark purple clouds on the eastern horizon, underlit with red from the still-hidden sun, scattered against an increasingly-light-blue sky. Great white clouds of fog lift off the pasture.

I used to arise with or often before the sun, enthusiastic for the morning, happy to feed my pets, catch up on the blog, enjoy the coolest part of the day, get some work done.

This is a problem for me on boycotting many things. I'd have to start to stop.
There is no substitute for coffee. None. 'Way back when, before kids, Milady and I tried various alternatives. They were all more-or-less okay for what they were, roasted grains or whatever.
